Terms of Service

Effective date: DRAFT — pending founder approval. This text is not in force yet.

These terms cover your use of Assisting Work (assistingwork.com) and indstry (indstry.id), together “the Platform”. One account works on both.

The Platform is run by Assisting Work Ltd (“we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales, company number 14363015, registered office 344 Flat 1-4 Kingsland Road, London E8 4DA. indstry is a brand of Assisting Work Ltd.

By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to these terms and to our house rules. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data.

1. Who can join

  • Age: you must be 18 or over. We ask you to confirm this when you join, and we close accounts we find belong to anyone younger.
  • One person, one account: your account is for you. Keep your sign-in details to yourself.
  • Businesses: if you join as a business, you confirm you are allowed to act for it, and the business is bound by these terms.
  • Accuracy: tell the truth about who you are, your work and your experience, and keep it up to date.

2. Joining and being seen

indstry is a trusted network. Who sees you depends on who knows you.

  • You are in straight away. Anyone who signs up is a member at once. Nobody has to approve you to join.
  • Your network sees you. At first your ID is seen by your connections, and by the connections of any member who recommends you. If you join through a link a member shared with you, you are connected to them.
  • Recommendations are personal. A recommendation is one member’s own word about another. It helps the recommender’s connections find you. It does not verify you, list you or change your standing, and we do not check what members say about each other.
  • Verified means paid and checked. A member who pays for a membership, and whose ID a person at indstry has then checked, is marked Verified. Verified members are listed in the directory for everyone, can browse the whole directory, and their ID can be found through search engines. No other member carries the mark or is listed publicly.
  • Your contact details: your email and phone number are shown only to members who are signed in, never on the open web. You choose whether that is anyone on indstry or only your connections. Links you add, such as your website or Instagram, are public.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to:

  • Use the Platform only for lawful, professional purposes: your creative work, your ID and projects, finding people, and arranging work.
  • Behave professionally in every message, availability check and booking.
  • Not upload anything illegal, defamatory, discriminatory, harassing or otherwise harmful, or anything you don’t have the right to share.
  • Not pretend to be someone else, or misstate your qualifications or experience.
  • Not use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to access or collect data from the Platform without our written permission.
  • Not get around our security, or the visibility and contact rules that protect other members.

We may remove content that breaks these terms or the house rules, and suspend or close the accounts of people who break them (section 9).

4. Reporting and complaints

  • Reporting a member or content: use Report on the person’s ID or in your conversation with them, or email indi@indstry.id. Tell us what happened. A person reads every report. We may remove content, warn, suspend or close the account, and where we can, we tell you when we have acted.
  • Blocking: you can block anyone from their ID or your conversation. Once blocked, you stop seeing each other, and any recommendation between you is withdrawn for good.
  • Complaints about us: if you are unhappy with the Platform or with a decision we made about your account, email indi@indstry.id. We aim to reply within 14 days.
  • Anything urgent: if someone is in danger, contact the police first.

5. Your content

You keep all rights in what you upload: your ID, gallery, projects, reel, images, videos and words.

By uploading content, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to show it and make it available as part of running the Platform, under the visibility rules in section 2. That includes showing your ID and work to other members, showing Verified members in the public directory, and making resized versions and previews for display.

The licence exists only to run the Platform and ends when you delete the content or your account. We will not sell your content, or use it for anything unrelated to the Platform without asking you first.

6. Bookings between members

The Platform helps members find each other, check availability, and agree the terms of a job between themselves: dates, the day rate or fee, and the cancellation policy.

  • We are not a party. A booking is an agreement between the members in it. When both sides agree the terms, those terms are the contract between them, not with us.
  • Payment happens between you, outside the Platform. We do not hold, collect or guarantee any payment.
  • Cancelling a booking: either side can cancel a confirmed booking in the app. The booking records who cancelled and when, and we tell the other side. Any cancellation fee is set by the policy both sides agreed, and is a share of the whole booking: the rate times the number of days. Before both sides agree the terms, a booking can be released without a fee.
  • We are not an employer, an employment agency or an employment business for work arranged between members, and we do not check or enforce the terms you agree.
  • We do not promise that any availability check, message or booking leads to work.

7. Availability checks and your minimum day rate

  • Open to availability checks: you choose whether people can send you one. With it switched off, nobody can.
  • Your minimum day rate is private. You can set one in your settings. It is never shown on your ID.
  • Offers below it are declined automatically. If someone sends you an availability check for a commercial job, and the fee is below your minimum day rate, we reply to them for you straight away. The reply says your minimum day rate is higher than their offer, so you won’t take it at that fee. It never gives the figure. The check still reaches your Messages, marked as declined automatically, and you can still reply.
  • How we compare the fee: a fee for the whole project is divided by the number of days asked for. A range is judged on its top figure. An ask at APA rates always passes. An unpaid or editorial ask with no fee is never declined automatically.
  • If you sent the offer: an automatic decline is not a judgement of you. You can send a new offer.

8. Paid membership, billing and cancellation

Joining and using the Platform is free. A paid membership adds more. We always show the price before you pay, and never charge you without your agreement.

Prices: the Talent membership costs £7 a month or £60 a year. The early bird price is £30 for the first year, then £60 a year. Each person can have one free or reduced benefit, ever: a membership given by indstry, a gift from another member, or the early bird. The Business membership is not on sale yet. We will publish its price before it is. Prices include any tax that applies.

What a membership adds: the benefits are listed on the Membership page. They include being listed in the public directory, once your ID is checked.

Listing is checked by a person: you pay first, then a person at indstry checks your ID before you are listed and marked Verified. We look at whether the ID is real, complete and within the house rules. If we decline the listing, your membership carries on with its other benefits, unlisted, and you can ask us to check again after 30 days. A declined listing is not in itself a reason for a refund, but your right to cancel below still applies.

Billing: you pay monthly or yearly in advance, as you choose when you join. Your membership renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. If we change the price, we will tell you at least 30 days before a renewal at the new price, and you can cancel before it applies.

Your 14-day right to cancel: if you are a consumer, you can cancel within 14 days of joining for any reason. When you join, you ask us to start your membership straight away. If you then cancel within the 14 days, we refund what you paid, minus a fair amount for the days you have already had. At checkout we ask you to agree to these terms and show this line: “Your membership starts today. If you cancel within 14 days, we refund you, minus the days you’ve had.”

Cancelling your membership: you can cancel at any time in the app: go to Membership and choose Cancel membership. We will ask why you are leaving, confirm the date your membership ends, and email you a confirmation. Until that date you keep your benefits, and you can restart from the same page.

Refunds after 14 days: once the 14 days have passed, we don’t refund payments already made, or give partial refunds for the rest of a period you have started. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights.

Gifts and memberships from indstry: a gift membership from another member, or a membership given by indstry, costs you nothing. It lasts until the date shown on your Membership page, or for life if it says so, and has no cash value.

Members who joined through the previous Assisting Work website: if your membership was set up before your account on this website (for example the Assisting Work WhatsApp membership), email info@assistingwork.com to cancel. Please send it from the email address your membership uses, so we know it’s you. If it reaches us at least 2 working days before your next payment, we stop that payment. If it arrives later, the cancellation may start from the payment after. We will email you to confirm. If you don’t hear from us within 5 working days, please write again.

Failed payments: if a payment fails, we may pause your membership benefits and let you know by email. If it stays unpaid, we may end your membership.

Notifications: some benefits, such as job alerts, come by email or WhatsApp. Please keep your contact details up to date and make sure our emails are not blocked. We can’t be responsible for alerts you miss because your details are wrong or out of date.

Anything else we charge for, such as a paid post on Assisting Work, shows its price before you pay.

9. Suspension and closing your account

Closing your account yourself: you can stop using the Platform at any time. To delete your account, email privacy@indstry.id from your account email address. We check the request and complete deletion within 30 days, as the Privacy Policy describes. Deletion can’t be undone, and some records are kept where the law requires it. Cancel any paid membership first (section 8).

When we suspend an account: we may suspend or close your account if you:

  • break these terms or the house rules;
  • harm or put at risk other members, the Platform or anyone else;
  • give false or misleading information when you join or on your ID.

Suspension removes you from the Platform. Your ID stops working for everyone, you leave the directory, Latest and every “Recommended by” list, and you are signed out at once. We email you to say your account is suspended, and you can write to indi@indstry.id to ask about it or ask us to look again. Where we can, we warn you first and give you a chance to put things right. For serious or repeated breaches we may act at once.

10. Limits on our liability

We provide the Platform “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows:

  • we make no promise that the Platform will always be available, accurate or suitable for a particular purpose;
  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of profit, business or opportunity;
  • our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it;
  • we are not responsible for what other members do or say, including their recommendations, their messages and the bookings they agree with you.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. If you are a consumer, nothing here affects your legal rights.

11. Disputes and the law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If something goes wrong, please contact us first at privacy@indstry.id so we can try to put it right. If we can’t settle it within 30 days, either of us may go to the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will tell you about important changes by email or in the app at least 14 days before they apply. If you keep using the Platform after that, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, you can cancel your membership and close your account.
